On May 4 (9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) you can participate in a citywide (and beyond!) disaster drill!

Local disaster preparedness and emergency response teams will be conducting an “activation exercise.” Participants will include individuals, neighborhood CERT teams, and city-wide organizations involved in disaster response and preparedness. Participating individuals, groups, and organizations will have the opportunity to perform the following:

• Review and update their emergency response procedures
• Practice activating their emergency response plan(s)
• Participate in exercises with other CERT groups and city-wide organizations

Sign up at the link below, and email info@bdpnnetwork.org if you have questions or are interested in volunteering. Once you sign up, we’ll send you scenarios that you can use to test how ready you, your family, your neighborhood, or CERT team are to respond to a large-scale emergency.

Because this will be a city-wide (and beyond) drill, we are providing a Google map (see below) that you can use to communicate with (in person) BeCERTAINN’s GMRS repeater radio group who’ll be participating as well. We’ll be practicing communicating both needs and available resources to a radio mesh.

If all of this sounds confusing, fear not! Individuals and groups who have never participated in an emergency drill are welcomed and encouraged to participate. You can make it as involved as is appropriate for your level of readiness!

This is all about community working together and communicating in times when professional first responders will be overwhelmed. Most people whose lives are saved in a large-scale disaster are saved by their neighbors! But knowing your neighbors and being connected with your community is vital to making that happen.
