Creating a Citywide Network of Community HUBS for Disaster Response

August 29, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

After a disaster, our traditional communication tools go down — but our need to connect with one another only rises. How can we make sure Berkeley communities can communicate and organize efficiently after a disaster?

At this BDPNN quarterly meeting, you’ll hear about one simple and powerful idea that cities like Portland and Seattle are putting into place to connect communities after disaster strikes: creating a network of physical “hubs” throughout the city.

Can this idea work for Berkeley? How might it work in your community, and what challenges would it face? Come next Thursday, August 29th to hear about this potential community connection system and share your opinion on whether it’s right for Berkeley.

This idea can’t move forward without your feedback. Join this special BDPNN session to explore the potential of this innovative approach to community disaster response.
