SUMMARY:Neighborhood and Community Resilience Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In an era of increasing climate disasters and ongoing systemic challenges\, true safety isn’t just about having the latest disaster gadget —it’s about having a self reliant\, connective and inclusive community. The Neighborhood Network (BDPNN) and local nonprofit Collective Resilience invite you to join us for an interactive workshop as we reimagine Berkeley’s emergency preparedness through the lens of resilience hubs\, spaces\, and networks\, rooted in equity and social cohesion. \nREGISTER HERE \n\n\nDuring the workshop participants will: \nLEARN about community resilience: We will address climate disasters and ongoing challenges—including extreme heat\, rising food prices\, and wildfires—and introduce resilience hubs\, spaces\, and networks as models. Learn about Berkeley’s history with its own resilience hubs program (Community Resilience Centers); and explore models from around the country. \nCONNECT WITH NEIGHBORS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS: Participate in a fun hands-on climate disaster exercise to explore how community spaces can be transformed into life-saving hubs\, and utilized by neighborhood groups. \nTAKE ACTION: Come away with small steps you can take to develop a network of resilience hubs. As well\, we will start to map out Berkeley’s existing resilience resources and discuss ways to integrate them into the BDPNN Network and Platform. \nAbout Resilience Hubs\, Spaces & Networks: Many cities around the country are moving beyond traditional “emergency response” to build decentralized networks of community spaces serving as resilience hubs (also called “community resilience centers”)—libraries\, community centers\, places of worship and other trusted sites in our community transformed to both build social cohesion and prepare and respond to disasters. They are centered on equity\, sustainability\, and deep relationship building with the goal that support is always within a “15-minute walking radius” of those who need it most. \n\nDoors open at 6:00 p.m. Eating and mingling until 6:30 p.m.\nProgram will start at 6:30.\nThe BFUU church is wheelchair accessible\, with a wheelchair ramp located at the front of the church.\nLight snacks and drinks will be served (thank you to Cheeseboard Pizza for donating five pizzas to this event!)\nThank you to our local electricity provider\, Ava Community Energy\, for their sponsorship of this resilience hub workshop. Ava provides clean energy at lower rates and reinvests in our community through programs\, grants\, and sponsorships. – you\nThank you to our event partner: Climate Health Now
